Summer Stories Series: Scenes of Summer

An early summer day looks pine green and cerulean blue. Bright marigold orange and lavender purple spill over the ground. The thick grass in our backyard looks like a soft carpet, ready for bare feet.

A midsummer’s day looks hazy and pale like all the colors have dulled. Brown spots dot the lawns down the street, including ours, and flowers begin to wilt. Everything looks thirsty.

The days stretch, and they are red, blue, and white on some days and bikini-clad on others. They are a blend of colors as thousands gather together, or a dark, star-filled night in the solitary mountains.

I see blazing sun and merciless heat drowned by drizzling rain before lightning cuts through the sky. The smiling faces of family at reunions, and the sweat dripping down all of us as the sun hits high noon.

Whether fireworks or stars or lightning or sun, the sky is always lit.
